Trusting God’s Timing
Scripture: Genesis 15:6 “And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness.” (ESV)
Waiting is one of the hardest parts of life. We can endure hardship when we know when it will end, but uncertainty can wear us down. Abraham and Sarah knew what it meant to wait. God promised that Abraham would become the father of a great nation, yet years passed without the promised child. They questioned, grew frustrated, and eventually tried to take matters into their own hands.
Their story reminds us that waiting does not mean God has forgotten you.
Sometimes we want God to tell us what He is doing, when He will do it, and how it will happen. But faith often asks us to trust God before we understand His plan.
Sarah's decision to take matters into her own hands shows how easily frustration can turn into a desire for control. When we grow tired of waiting, we may try to produce what only God can provide. Our attempts to control the outcome can lead to unintended consequences.
Yet God did not abandon Abraham and Sarah despite their struggles. In time, Sarah gave birth to Isaac, and Genesis 21:1 says:
“And the LORD visited Sarah as he had said…” (ESV)
God did what He said He would do.
For someone searching for God, this story does not promise that every desire will eventually happen exactly as we want. Instead, it offers a deeper question: Can we still trust God when life does not unfold as we expect?
For those who follow Christ, waiting is an opportunity to become more like Him—learning patience, surrender, obedience, and trust rather than letting frustration control our decisions.
REFLECT
Am I trusting God, or am I trying to control the outcome?
What would it look like to keep walking with God even though I do not yet have the answer?
THIS WEEK
When you feel frustrated by something you cannot control, pause before acting. Pray honestly about your fears and desires. Then remind yourself:
I may not understand God's process, but I can trust God's character.
Keep walking. Keep obeying. Keep trusting
PRAYER
God, help me trust You when I do not understand Your timing. When I become frustrated, keep me from taking control in ways that lead me away from Your will. Give me patience to wait, courage to obey, and faith to believe that Your faithfulness does not depend on my ability to understand. Shape me to become more like Christ as I wait. Amen.
REMEMBER
God's timing may test your patience, but it does not change His faithfulness.
