Abiding in Kindness

From the Desk of Pastor Owens

Scripture: Ephesians 4:32

"Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you."

Reflection

Kindness is often underestimated.

In a world that celebrates power, influence, and recognition, kindness can seem small and insignificant. Yet Scripture teaches that kindness is among the fruits of the Spirit and a reflection of God's character.

Kindness is more than politeness. It is more than good manners. Biblical kindness is love in action. It is compassion expressed in words, attitudes, and deeds.

When God showed us kindness, He did more than offer kind words. He demonstrated His love through Jesus Christ by forgiving us when we were undeserving, extending grace when we had fallen short, and welcoming us into His family.

Because we have received God's kindness, we are called to extend it to others.

This means:

  • Forgiving when it would be easier to hold a grudge.

  • Showing compassion when others are struggling.

  • Offering encouragement to someone who feels discouraged.

  • Responding with grace instead of retaliation.

The world often says, "Kill them with kindness." But Christian kindness is not about winning an argument or making someone feel guilty. It reflects the heart of Christ.

Kindness is not a weapon.

It is a witness.

Every act of kindness offers us an opportunity to make God's love visible.

Key Thought

Kindness is not something we do occasionally; it is evidence that Christ lives within us.

Questions for Reflection

  1. How has God shown kindness to you recently?

  2. Is there someone you need to forgive or extend grace to?

  3. How can you intentionally show kindness this week?

  4. Are your acts of kindness motivated by love or by a desire for recognition?

Application

Each day this week, choose one intentional act of kindness.

It doesn't have to be large or dramatic.

You could:

  • Encourage someone with a phone call or text.

  • Help a neighbor or coworker.

  • Offer forgiveness where there has been harm.

  • Speak words that build someone up.

  • Meet a practical need for someone in your community.

Remember, small acts of kindness often have impacts far greater than we realize.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the kindness You have shown me through Jesus Christ. Help me reflect Your heart in my daily interactions. Teach me to be compassionate, forgiving, and generous toward others. Let my words and actions reveal Your love to those around me. Use even the smallest acts of kindness to encourage others and bring glory to Your name. May the fruit of kindness continue to grow in my life as I abide in You.

In Jesus' name,

Amen.

Closing Encouragement

You may never know how far a single act of kindness will travel.

A simple word, a helping hand, or a moment of compassion can serve as a reminder that God sees, loves, and cares for someone.

Today, let Christ's kindness flow through you.

Kindness is not a weapon to win people—it is a witness pointing people to Jesus.
