Abiding in Joy

From the Desk of Pastor Owens

Scripture

Epistle to the Philippians 4:4
“Rejoice in the Lord always; again, I will say, rejoice.”

Reflection

Joy is often misunderstood.

We often think joy comes from things going right—when life is smooth, prayers are answered as we hoped, and everything falls into place. But that kind of joy is fragile. It rises and falls with circumstances.

The joy God offers is unique.

It is not based on what’s happening around us, it is rooted in who we are connected with.

That’s why the Apostle Paul could write about rejoicing even while in prison. His situation didn’t give him joy—his relationship with Christ did.

When we abide in Christ, joy becomes more than an emotion. It becomes a steady confidence that God is present, God is working, and God is still in control—even when life feels uncertain.

This kind of joy doesn’t deny hardship—it endures it.

Key Thought

Joy is not something you chase—it flows from your relationship with Christ.

Application

Today, shift your focus from trying to feel joy to staying connected with the source of joy.

  • Spend intentional time with God—even if it’s only a few quiet moments

  • When challenges arise, remind yourself of who God is, not just what you see

  • Practice gratitude—thank God for what He’s doing, even if you don’t fully understand it.

Ask yourself:

  • What has been affecting my joy lately?

  • Am I rooted in Christ or reacting to circumstances?

Prayer

“Lord, thank You for a joy deeper than my circumstances. Help me stay connected to You, especially when life feels uncertain. Teach me to trust You, to rest in Your presence, and to let Your joy strengthen me each day. Let my life reflect the joy that comes from knowing You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

Closing Encouragement

Joy doesn’t come from everything going smoothly.

It comes from knowing that God is still right there with you.

So today—stay connected and let His joy be your strength.
